A Scot once asked, “where the hell is Kaltenbrunnen”, when he was looking for a place to stay overnight in the beautiful Bregenzerwald. Well, Kaltenbrunnen is located above the beautiful village Egg, at the east side of the Brueggelkopf mountain (1.182m/3,878ft.) and has its name from the cold fountain in front of the house.
The guesthouse Alpenrose is a typical house built in the well known Bregenzerwald style. Wood shingles cover the walls and the mighty balcony in front of the house allows an endless view across the valley of the Bregenzer Ach river.
The small village Egg, to which Kaltenbrunnen belongs, has its name from the Middle Ages and describes the “rock-corner”, around which the Bregenzer Ache river has to flow. The place was already mentioned 1275 as “Andereggen” (An=at, der=the, eggen=corner).
9 double bedrooms, all equipped with own shower and toilette and 4 three-bed bedrooms with floor shower, cosy and comfortable, supply the necessary quietness for recovery to the hiker and motorbike traveler after an outstanding day tour. Only the bells of the mountain cows, which graze on the meadows in front of the guesthouse could function as an early morning alarmclock, so that you don’t miss the fantastic sunrise.
Our hostel is located at approxiamtely 1.000m/3,281ft. above sealevel, surrounded by meadows and a farm house in the middle of a fantastic landscape. Nevertheless, with all romantic details, we had to follow the technology trend as well and therefore our house is equipped with a WLAN system to access the Internet.
