Die KaeseStrasse Bregenzerwald is not only another region or a route, where you can buy cheese. It’s a trade mark of our region, a network of producers and marketing agents, a philosophy and harmony of farmer habits for local quality products and modern marketing, well thought in an economic environment that delivers interesting impressions to our guests and local inhabitants.
Real and authentical, that’s what the KaeseStrasse - CheeseRoad Bregenzerwald wants to be and serve for the local people — their self-confidence, the quality of their products, the economical safety, and the protection of the cultural environment. Protecting ressources and innovation is sometimes a sword that cuts both sides, but which was made possible in the Bregenzerwald forest and lived every day - not only on the KaeseStrasse.

In focus are the cheese producers. Farmers with small own shops, village diaries and dairy alps. Also the guesthouses, restaurants, sightseeing locations, as well as the many sales shops and trading agents that support the producers to enable sales of their products. We would like to bring to you the taste of the Bregenzerwald KaeseStrasse - Cheese Road and together with that taste the contact to our local culture, villages, tourist centers and our local producers who would like to present these products. In 17 valley diaries and 90 Alps diaries we produce based on old recipes mountain- and Alps cheese. They are making the Bregenzerwald to the GOURMET REGION Bregenzerwald.

Farmers
|
|
The CheeseRoad farmers shops on the farm site are gourmet shops in regards to local specialties. You find in there besides the huge offering of cheese products, eggs, sausages, meet, vinegar, jelly and honey as well as very fine spirituous beverages, tee and much more. We can organize a brunch session at one of these sites on request. Guest and farmer visitors are always welcome. Many farmers produce their own cheese products on their farm and welcome visitors at any time to watch them during the process of cheese production.

Dairy farmers

In 17 village diaries the Bregenzerwald cheese specialties are produced based on procedures that are more than several hundreds of years old based on very solid traditions in small and high quality structures. The annual production of nearly 45 mio. liters milk is nearly solely taken in the region for the production of cheese products, mainly to 4,500 tons of spicy mountain cheese and to additional approximately 40 regional different cheese brands, as well as butter and cream. We have no mass production or cheese factories in our Bregenzerwald.

Dairy Alps

|
More than 90 Senn diaries are operational in the Bregenzerwald, that populate the high mountain meadows with milk cows. To the gourmet specialties we count the Bregenzerwald Alps cheese, that is only produced by hand during summertime. The different in tastes are based on the different type of grass and herbs that grow in the different regions. The 200 tons Alps cheese of our region is a rare specialty and always an absolute highlight for cheese friends.

Cheese hosts

|
In the homelike wooden snuggeries of the guesthouses and restaurants, the hosts and cooks offer a huge variety of cheese specialties. As a member of the CheeseRoad we are certified cheese host and we offer our guests throughout the whole year the traditional gourmet cheese products, cheese menus and overnight stays after. Real cheese hosts provide at least five traditional cheese meals based on regional milk- and cheese products as well as made of five different cheeses brands.

Cheese guesthouses
|
|
The so called pass by guesthouses are located in the valley as well as in the mountains. These locations are very cozy and simple guesthouses. Guests enjoy here the original guesthouse culture out of old times. A minimum of three cheese meals are available and a variety of Bregenzerwald cheese specialties.

Partners

|
In the partner operations of the CheeseRoad you get an impression of the life, the historical background and specialties of the „woods“ as the Bregenzerwald was called in the past. You can bargain local gourmet specialties and presents. To the partner operations we also count the many grocery stores in the region, that focus on local products in their offer. They receive their products directly from the local farmers and can therefore offer the full range of Bregenzerwald CheeseRoad products.

All members of the CheeseRoad can be identified by the brown KaeseStrasse sign installed outside at the wall. They offer programs, sight seeing and products or serve cheese specialties from the region and make the Bregenzerwald a gourmet- and nature region.
